What is rebar detection?
Rebar detection is the non-destructive mapping of the position, depth, and center-to-center spacing of reinforcement bars (rebar) and prestressed cables in concrete structures. Using professional radar equipment, we create a detailed image of what is inside the concrete without damaging the material. This is essential for renovation, remodeling, and structural modifications to existing concrete buildings and structures.
Rebar detection uses ground-penetrating radar (GPR) to determine the exact location of reinforcing steel within a concrete structure. The Hilti PS1000 X-Scan sends electromagnetic waves through the concrete that reflect off objects such as rebar, prestressed cables, and embedded conduits. The result is an accurate map of the reinforcement layout: horizontal and vertical bars, their depth up to 300mm, and their spacing. This information is indispensable when you need to drill anchor holes or penetrations, create openings for ducts or channels, or assess the load-bearing capacity of a structure.

How does rebar detection work?
We perform the concrete scanning on-site with the Hilti PS1000 X-Scan, a professional ground-penetrating radar specifically designed for concrete investigation. The scanning process follows four steps. First, we discuss your situation: where do you want to drill or cut, and what is the objective? Next, we scan the relevant concrete surface. The radar sends pulses through the concrete that reflect off rebar, cables, and other objects. Results are visible in real time on the screen, allowing us to determine the position of every reinforcement bar on the spot. We then mark the safe drilling positions directly on the concrete with markers. Finally, you receive a comprehensive digital report (PDF) within 24 hours containing all scan results, photos, and our recommendations for your project.
When do you need rebar detection?
Rebar detection is necessary for virtually any intervention in existing concrete. During renovation and remodeling, a concrete scan prevents you from damaging reinforcement or prestressed cables when creating new penetrations or openings. Structural engineers use rebar detection to verify the current reinforcement layout for load-bearing calculations. For damage prevention, a pre-scan saves thousands of euros in repair costs by preventing critical rebar from being drilled through. And for quality control on new construction projects, you can verify that reinforcement has been installed according to drawings. Rebar detection is regularly used by contractors, construction companies, installers, and structural engineering firms throughout North Brabant and surrounding regions.
What do you receive?
Direct marking on the concrete showing reinforcement locations and safe drilling positions. A comprehensive digital report (PDF) with all scan results and images. Photos of the scanned areas for documentation. Personal advice on the best approach for your planned work. Report delivery: within 24 hours after the scan.
