Utility detection in concrete involves locating embedded pipes, cables, and conduits in concrete floors, walls, and ceilings. Using radar scanning, we make visible where electrical wiring, water pipes, heating pipes, underfloor heating, and other installations run through the concrete. This is crucial for preventing damage during drilling, cutting, and demolition work in existing structures.

How does utility detection in concrete work?
During utility detection, we scan the concrete surface with the Hilti PS1000 X-Scan ground-penetrating radar. The device sends electromagnetic pulses through the concrete that reflect off objects with a different density than the surrounding concrete. This way, not only metal pipes are detected, but also plastic conduits, empty voids, and cavities. Our specialist analyzes the radar images on-site and distinguishes between reinforcement and utilities based on the reflection pattern and depth. The detected utilities are marked directly on the concrete surface, so you know exactly where you can and cannot drill or cut. For more complex situations, we deliver a digital report with all scan results.
